It presents its methods for doing so and how “these commitments underscore JetBlue’s aim for a more sustainable business.” It discusses plans for offsetting emissions as well as supporting projects around the world that support carbon offsets. There are some quotes from CEO Robin Hayes that will appeal to people concerned with sustainability and sheds a positive light on JetBlue. In reading about public relations and product-focused advertisements in chapter 19, I found this article interesting. Many consumers today are concerned about sustainability and using environmentally friendly products and companies. Releasing this announcement to the press brings positive recognition to the company. Public relations is impossible to control, but it is an inexpensive way to get their name in the news cycle. This announcement probably doesn’t change the opinions of loyal customers, but it may help them gain new customers that are conscious of the environment. It is free publicity that people will see and think JetBlue the next time they book a flight.
